Effect of hook and bait type on catch per unit effort in the Aegean Sea demersal longline fishery

This study aimed to determine the impact of hook and bait type on catch composition per unit effort. Effects types composition, effort (CPUE), length weight distributions in demersal longline fishery were determined by experimental surveys sets Aegean Sea. A total 12 samplings corresponding 4800 fishing performed between April 2014 September 2014. Two types; sardine (Sardina pilchardus) grooved razor shell (Solen marginatus) two J-hook C-hook tested. CPUE values calculated for each species assessed different hook-bait combinations. 623 individuals captured belonging 3 families 9 species. It was found that more than 60% 50% caught with J hook. be close significant (p=0.06) (p=0.02) CPUE. The effect distribution. Hook-bait combination differed according C baited best Sparus aurata as most targeted fish area. Discard ratio 34% terms 42.5% number pooled data. condition value (K) ranged from 1.05 1.68 type.
